Fishing

Coarse fishing is another one of my hobbies. Thankfully, I can combine it with my love of photography to create some great shots of some of the fishing venues I visit. When coding this section, I thought there would be lots of images to show you... As it turns out, fishing can be fairly busy, so busy in fact, that there isn't as much time to take pictures as I thought. However, here are some of my favourites from the Waterside.

My Usual View

My usual View from the Waterside

This was taken at Saltfleetby Fisheries , near Mablethorpe in Lincolnshire. Out of the 3 lakes at this venue, I have only fished one of them, but such a great day. This image portrays the weather to be lovely, which it was for most of the day. But, as we know, the British weather can be "Unpredictable" to say the least. Between catching fish, covering my tackle from the rain, and trying to keep the Ducks away from my float, it was quite a busy day. These photos always make it look tranquil though.

Aby Fishing Lake

Aby is one of the smallest venues in the area around Louth. It consists of one, medium sized lake, which is surrounded by trees & is very picturesque (as can be seen by this picture). It is not run as a business, but merely a lake that a local farmer has on his land, so utilises it for Day Tickets , for the people who know it's there. It is well stocked with reasonable sized Carp, Roach & Bream (amongst other species), which makes it a great local lake to spend a relaxing day at. This picture was taken before I purchased my ND Filters, but the surface of the lake still looks quite smooth.

Thimbleby Lakes Common Carp

Common Carp at Thimbleby Lakes

I have always loved Thimbleby Lakes. They are local enough to get a full day in, they are the most accessible lakes in the area, in fact, it's possible to drive right up to the water, so close in fact, you could fish from your car if you wanted! There are 3 lakes in use (although only 2 are used by the majority of anglers here). The Carp may not be the biggest of the lakes in the area, but, as you can see from this photo, they are quality fish & usually look stunning. The colours on this Common Carp have not been edited, the fins really were that bright.

Dragonfly at Grange Leisure Park

This picture was taken on a Recce to Grange Leisure Park. I have never actually fished here, but I fully intend to in 2023, and the water levels rise a bit. I'm not trying to advertise this place, but, they have at least 6 fishing lakes, all well stocked with a variety of fish. Even on busy days, there will still be plenty of room to lay out your tackle. Having not fished here, it's difficult to say how good it is, but, when I visited to look around, the water levels were about 3 feet lower that they should be. I know this isn't the fault of the complex, just the way 2022 has been. There was still plenty of wildlife to photograph during my visit... Apart from Dragonflies, there were a selection of ducks and geese. There is also a Windfarm close-by. Love wildfarms, or hate them, if they go some way to helping the planet from destruction, they're OK with me.

Thimbleby Mirror Carp

Mirror Carp at Thimbleby Lakes

We're back at Thimbleby Lakes again, this time with a nice looking Mirror Carp. I rarely set up all my camera gear when I start a fishing session, on the off chance I'm going to use it. Also, if it starts raining, it's just another set of stuff I have to worry about. So, on these occassions, I often setup my phone camera on an adapter attached to a Bank Stick. If you look at this picture carefully, you will see a Bluetooth trigger button in my right hand, which, when setup on my phone, activates the camera. You will see the setting for the phone camera below, some of the settings are a bit extreme, but these are setup by the camera because the auto (Point & Shoot) nature of phone cameras is exceptionally good these days.

When the fish Don't want to Play

This one is just a bit of fun, after all, fishing shouldn't be taken too seriously. August 2019 turned out to be slightly chilly, hence the winter layers. However, when the fish aren't interested in feeding, it gives a bit of time to play with Christmas presents from last year. I knew I would find a time to use these gifts that were given in fun. This was another Bluetooth activated photo, which seem to work under these types of scenario. Again, looking at the phone camera settings, they don't look like they would work, but they obviously do - a shutter speed of 1/443 and the ISO is only 50... The f1.8 makes all the difference, giving an extremely large apature.

By The Way... The hat was a Christmas Present too. It Was quite apt for today: Where's The Fish.
